It's a WiFi setup built to blanket a whole home evenly and handle lots of connected devices at once — the backbone a smart home runs on. A mesh system uses a main unit plus one or more satellite nodes that work as a single network, so as you move around the house your phone and gadgets hand off smoothly with no dead zones. A smart router is a single powerful unit that does the same job for a smaller space. Both typically run the newer WiFi 6 or 6E standards, come with an app for control, and let you create separate networks for guests and IoT devices. Compared with the old single router in the corner, they're designed for a house full of cameras, speakers, plugs and TVs rather than just a laptop or two.

It comes down to your home's size and layout, not the marketing. A large house, a duplex or a home with thick walls and multiple floors genuinely benefits from mesh, because the nodes carry a strong signal into rooms a single router can't reach. But a compact 1–2BHK flat is very often covered perfectly by one good WiFi 6 router, and buying a two- or three-node mesh for that space is money spent on coverage you don't need. The honest test is where your dead zones are: if there aren't any with a well-placed single router, you don't need mesh. We size the system to your actual layout rather than defaulting to the priciest kit.

Yes, but for a reason people often misunderstand — it's about handling many devices, not just raw speed. A busy smart home can have twenty, thirty or more things connected at once, and WiFi 6 and 6E are much better than the older WiFi 5 at serving lots of devices simultaneously without everything slowing down, thanks to more efficient scheduling and, for 6E, an extra clean 6GHz band. So even if your broadband plan is modest, a WiFi 6 system keeps a crowded network responsive. If you only have a handful of devices, WiFi 5 may still be fine, which is why we match the standard to your device count rather than assuming you need the newest.

Not beyond your broadband plan — this is the single most important thing to understand before spending. Your WiFi system distributes the internet you already pay for; it cannot create more speed than your connection delivers, so a ₹25,000 mesh on a 100 Mbps plan will never give you more than roughly 100 Mbps to the internet. What a better system does do is make sure you actually get your plan's speed reliably in every room and across many devices, instead of losing it to weak signal or an overloaded old router. So match the system to your broadband: if your plan is slow, upgrading the plan (see our Home Internet pages) matters more than a premium router; if your plan is fast but your coverage is patchy, a good system unlocks what you're already paying for.

A home full of connected gadgets is a larger target than a couple of phones, so a few sensible steps matter. Put your IoT devices — cameras, plugs, bulbs — on a separate guest or IoT network, so if one cheap gadget is ever compromised it can't reach your laptops and phones. Change the default admin password to a strong, unique one, turn on automatic firmware updates so security patches install themselves, and use WPA3 encryption where the system supports it.
